Default Going to take the boat and float the lower Sac. recomendations

Was going to take the boat up and float the lower sac this weekend. Will want to fish dry's and streamers. Any suggestion on put in and take out launches this time of year? Looking for a nice section to float and probably get out and fish with feet on the ground.

    Thanks,,
    Russell

Lower Sac typical floats are Posse to Anderson, Anderson to Balls Ferry/Roosters, or Balls to Barge Hole. There are others and it depends upon how hard you want to row (or if you have a motor), how long you want to be out on the water, and how much wading you plan to do. The top of the river (Posse to Hwy 44) re-opens Aug 1 and it has not been fished since April 1 so it will be stacked with big rainbows...but it will also be a zoo with guide boats this weekend, so pick your poison.

There are some good gravel bars and runs to swing streamers. Lower Sac has limited opportunities to fish dries; there are some slicks that get morning and late afternoon dry fly action, but you have to pay close attention and pick your spots on that river. I think with so many bugs in the river and few/no browns, you have to work to fish streamers and dries. I generally love fishing streamers but have done better swinging soft-hackles on the Sac. Most of the guides chase bobbers down the river, which is effective for neophytes but not very interesting.

Thanks for the reply. Don’t mind swinging soft hackles or wet flies. The newly open stretch of river sounds great but not sure I could put up with the traffic

In the run right above Posse, when the afternoon caddis hatch comes off, there'll be 20 boats in there!
You can't buy happiness, but you can buy new fly fishing gear and that usually does the trick.
