    Exclamation McCloud fishing and snakes.

Recent report is the Mac is clear enough for fishing.
    Gauge show 1.7.
    No crowds right now.

As a side note, reports are the Rattlesnakes are again very present on the Mac this summer and they seem to be really grumpy.

Current guess is that the heat is effecting them. They are being much more aggressive than is normal for Northern Pacific rattlesnakes.

Be extra watchful on the trails and getting out of the water to the bank.

P.S. It's freakin hot up here. I guess it is everywhere in the west right now, but dang, we hit 111ish on Saturday. weatherman says one more week.

I heard that about the rattlesnakes at McCloud this year supposedly one of them chased after someone in the conservancy area. Really strange and aggressive behavior.

Default Update on McCloud color and Ah-Di-Na campground

Turbidity gauge on Mac shows 8.5 which suggests it is toast.
Waiting to hear a first hand report, hopefully in a day or two.

Also see Forest service page about availability of Camping at Ah-Di-Na.

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/stnf...ea/?recid=6580

    it says:

"AhDiNa Campground will be reserved for a permitted event, Run4Salmon, July 10-13, July 25-29 and August 15-21 2024"

Forest service (in phone conversation with me) says whole campground is reversed by special use permit for those week-end,
But if a space is not taken, it is available on first come first serve basis.

I would not expect to be able to get a site on the above week-ends.

Fished below Ash Camp on 7/12 and 13, water was a little on the cloudy side. If you hit them on the nose fishing was not bad but had to work at it and get to the good slots in spite of peril. All high sticking, grabs came on golden stones, medium sized nymphs, basically what they could see. Lots in the 8- 12" range did manage a hen brown in the 17" class, pretty and of course no camera but I have a picture in my noggin I will keep.

No snakes seen but based on past history I am sure I walked right past them...
