    Default Pyramid - 10/21

Arrived at Indian Head around 9:30. Our first trip this year and the lake is up. Only 10 anglers split between conventional and fly. Conditions were almost too good, little wind and warm. My wife got rid of the skunk early afternoon with one 25” fish released. Saw two fish hooked and none landed. Left at 3:30 with the one fish. I only saw 5 boats all day. It is either hunting season or lack of fish but not many people on the water.

I have been too lazy to post in the past, but if we do not contribute to this site it will lose its value.
We are lucky to have a place to post and share. Let’s all use it.
    Thanks

In the 1960s most fished Pyramid Lake starting in November and quite in about March.

Then in the 1990s, I think, November was a good starting time but people fly fished much further into the springtime, April/May.

Back then in the Spring the fish were smaller but plentiful, maybe 18 to 20" plus? I think ladders came in about then too.

Around 2012 they found the original "Old Strain" of Lahontan Cutthroat Trout found surviving in a small creek and introduced them

back into Pyramid Lake. Now the Lahontan Cutthroat trout might get to 40 plus pounds again?

Was lucky enough in 2016 to catch and release this 36”, 23 pound Pilot Peak Cutthroat on a Size 8 chironomid. Truly a fish of a lifetime.

I wonder if anyone has figured out a way to mount a LiveScope on their ladder yet..

Only been up there on two occasions.

It’s truly world-class, the fish are pretty incredible.

Hopefully the fishery is managed carefully.
