In the 1960s my dad and I were in his 13'4" Gregor aluminum boat fishing for salmon.

We launched at the mouth of the American River and went upstream to the Pipe bridge above the Hwy 160 bridges.

We tied up there to an old piling and fished with U-20 silver Flatfish, "anchor fishing" for salmon.

On the way upriver we went through about a 1/4 mile long school of hundreds of fresh run King salmon that were rolling on the surface.

We caught about 6 fresh medium-sized salmon that day.
