    Default Euro green rockworm

    TMC 2457 #10

    5/32 tungsten bead

lead core trolling line for the body

any dark or black dubbing , as spikey (or not) as you wish.

This weighs in at 9 grains, which is a little heavier than a size BB split shot (7.5-8 gr).

It drops quickly , and catches fish

(I'm not experienced taking or attaching photos - hope you see it OK.)

I like the use of the lead core for a body- segmented weight!

This is what I found in the Lower Kings River today. The water was still too high to get a good drift so I went bug hunting.
Right before I left, I started to see a caddis hatch. Something I haven't seen in a long time. Tried to get a photo but they didn't want to have their picture taken

Maybe 40 years ago the Lower Kings River was a big deal with lots of caddis and big resident trout.

Orvis Rep Ed Schroder lived down there, Fresno? and told us about the big caddis hatches down there.

Someone, maybe Ed, developed the Kings River caddis dry fly.

Some years ago that fisheries had a problem and collapsed.

The fly looks good and should sink fast. What lead-core did you use (brand and test/diameter)? I assume it is standard lead-core trolling line, which comes in 100yd spools with different colors every 6-10yds. Any place sell the stuff in smaller quantities?

yes lead core trolling line with alternating colors

    sorry I don't recall brand or test/diameter

what I have left over (a lot) somehow ended up on an entirely different spool

    other uses :

    - maybe as a "slinky'' style weight (instead of split shot) , when rigged for drop shot nymphing. I have yet to try this because here in CA it's an illegal setup (on moving water). My theory is it will snag bottom less than spilt shot(s) on the end of your tippet.

    - As weight on your reel to balance out your rod/reel combo. Really important if Euro nymphing - don't blow this off.

    - sections of lead core can be built into leaders to make a home made sink tip (this is why I bought the lead core years ago)
