$1000

I paid about $1600 for this used 6 or 8 years ago

At 6'5" with huge feet and not the slim fella I was 30 years ago, it's really just not big enough for me, so I rarely use it.

Pick up in Berkeley (the kid has the Subaru now)

Details

The lightweight Kevlar canoe that made Mad River Canoes famous: the Malecite KL Wood.

This is the perfect lake or easy river canoe for one or two (normal-sized) people. Or two people and a kid. A joy on the water.

For one person, it’s easy to paddle from the middle using the cane seat. The kevlar makes it light enough to lift onto a car solo.

For two people, swap out the middle seat with the carrying yoke (or not): there’s plenty of room for two padders in the front and back seats, plus gear.

Always stored indoors or covered.

Caning professionally replaced on seats in 2019.

Approx 8” diameter puncture damage near gunwale on side, professionally repaired many years ago.

Many, many accessories, including:
Two pairs of paddles: wood and angled wood-composite
Several straps and foam blocks for car racks
Interchangeable cane seat and yoke for middle position
Zip-up cordura storage bags that strap to seats or gunwales

Malecite KL wood - by Mad River
Designed by Jim Henry 1971 (Mad River founder)
Length 16’6” (Craigslist made me list it as 16 or 17)
Gunwale 33”, water line 31”
Pale yellow Kevlar with cane-and-wood seats, plus yoke
Slight rocker 2” (bow 20”, stern 19”)
Symmetrical
Shallow V

This Malecite was manufactured in 2000, which makes it an “original” design. Jim Henry was still with his company then.
