    Default North Island NZ contacts

I am considering making a last minute trip to the North Island sometime between late October and mid-March, pending how work goes and availability of award tickets. Does anyone have any trusted guide contacts on the North Island they could share? I have a stable of contacts down South, but not so many up north.

Planning on N Island because of easier logistics and shorter drive times, as I will probably only be able to swing a 7-9 day trip this time around.

Flywater Travel in Ashland, Oregon, owned by Far Bank, represents 5 top fly fishing lodges in New Zealand.

FW will have several staff members who go to NZ and know these lodges well.

They also have very detailed, personalized itineraries and excellent cutting-edge equipment lists.

They can help you coordinate your trip from the airport and back, and help with hotels as well.

If you go throw Flywater you will pay the same price as you would if you went directly to the lodges.

Thanks Bill, Poronui and Cedar Lodge have long since been on my bucket list, but probably not for this trip, which (if I pull it off) will be last minute and on a bit of a shoestring budget, campervan style or in the bridge hotel in Turangi. Might try to do one of those luxury options next year around Christmas holiday when the opportunity of advanced planning and more time on the ground would be in my favor.

I fished the Poronui Ranch over 30 years ago with the famous New Zealander, Simon Dickie.

He was an Olympic rower and a famous fly fisher on the North Island.

He was very handsome, extremely charming and fun to be around.
