This is a really iconic fly rod.
When Harry Wilson and Larry Kenny at Scott in the Bay Area developed it in the 1970s, Cortland had to develop a new WF4F fly line in
their "Peach" 444 fly line because none existed in that size. The smallest weight forward floating fly line was a WF5F.
Most put a small Hardy reel on them.
It was a huge game changer on Hat Creek and Fall River in the 1970s.

Nice rod but not quite stock. The cork slide band reel seat as been replaced with a Powell uplock.
Thanks for the heads up on the reel seat. I was unaware of that.
They came with an uplocking threaded nickel silver reel seat with a wood insert.
We had some get the wood insert swollen up by too much exposure to water.
That would be one reason why the reel seat was changed.
I think those later Powell reel seats had wood inserts that were impregnated with resin for moisture protection.
Other than collector value it is just fine.

There may be a component or two from a Powell seat but it isn’t a Powell seat. Same style, but the seat cap, spacer, and lock rings are not Powell.
There are few things in life more pleasing than the sublime marriage of form and function that is found in a well crafted fly rod.
