Captain Bryce Tedford is, in my estimation, the best Sacramento River Smallmouth Bass fly fishing skiff guide.

He guides a lot where the Sacramento River flows through the amazing Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta.

We first met Bryce up in Southern Oregon on the Rogue River where he was one of the top Steelhead Spey guides.

He later moved somewhere south of Sacramento and specializes in skiff fly fishing for Striper, LMB and especially SMB, all summer.

I know from listening well for 50 years to anglers that have caught big Smallmouth Bass in almost the entire length of the

Sacramento River and its tributaries. The Lower Feather River might be Number 2 for SMB. The Russian River has SMB too.

Before they dammed up all the rivers in the Sacramento Valley they all had Smallmouth populations.

The cold water from the dams pushed the SMB downriver for warmer water.
