The Billy Pate fly reels have brass bushings and cork drags instead of ball bearings and sealed drags so they have fewer failures

These are fantastic reels. I much prefer the direct drive over the anti-reverse. Very well made. If you love cork then this is a fantastic choice.

Billy Pate, a famous Tarpon fly fisher of the Great Generation, worked with Ted Juracsik, a European machinist, to develop the Billy Pate

saltwater fly reels. They made a direct drive model and an anti-reverse model in different sizes. Ted actually used the anti-reverse to

catch giant Tarpon.


Then, later, Ted developed the Tibor Large Arbor direct drive saltwater fly reels.
