"Greetings:
Today was our first day fishing and it was extremely windy, maybe 30 mph or so and it kind of put us in "survival" mode. I caught one 40 and one 25 pound Dorado and my boat partner caught one about 15 pounds. We caught 7 or 8 Skipjack and all the fish were caught trolling the blue and white Chicken fly. We tried to go after Roosters and did spot two active fish, but there was just too much wind. The wind is supposed to calm down in the next day or two.

6/24/2023 - Saturday


"Greetings:
Today we fished for a few hours in high wind again and didn't see anything so we went to the cove and switched out rods to lighter leaders and smaller flies, and right off the bat I had a giant Rooster come up and chomp on my fly. He spit it out just as fast and then ate my partner's fly and the fight was on! What a beautiful picture watching my buddy fight this monster. After about 20 minutes the fish came to the special net and what a whopper it was - close to 50 pounds. We took lots of pictures and let it go, and it swam away very strongly. We stayed in the same area and made a few more casts but there was no more action, so we moved to a new hole and proceeded to catch at least two dozen small 10-pounders We got bored with the small stuff and we decided to go for Dorado but couldn't find any and quit for the day.

6/25/2023 & 6/26/2023 - Sunday & Monday


"Hey Guys, We got into the Roosters big time yesterday and today. Yesterday we still had rough seas but we caught around 20 yesterday with the largest coming in at 25 pounds and that was mine. Today the water was a bit more calm and we landed about 30 and mine was the biggest again at 20 pounds. We've noticed that there aren't as many Roosters as last year but they seem, on average, to be bigger this year. We caught all of them on my Baja Sardine pattern that I tested out last year. If the sea calms down tomorrow we'll go for Dorado.

6/27/2023 - Tuesday


"Greetings: Today it was slow but we did find a school of Dorado in front of the Hotel. We each caught two and marked the spot with GPS thinking we could do better elsewhere. We hunted all day and didn't find any so before we came in we went back to the same spot and we nailed another dozen Dorado. Nothing to write home about however they wiggled.

6/28/2023 - Wednesday


Greetings:
This morning we smacked 18 Dorado in the early morning then went searching for big Dorado and didn't find any. Our buddies in another boat did get into some big ones, however, and their largest was a little over 30 pounds. The big Dorado seem to be coming up from the south now and we're just trying the cut them off at the pass. We also found some giant Roosters but they weren't interested in our small flies, so tomorrow we'll show them some larger airheads.

6/29/2023 - 6/30/2023 Thursday & Friday


"Greetings: Yesterday my boat partner caught a 45 pound Dorado, the biggest one he has ever caught. Today we went out again and looked for Dorado and couldn't find any. We came across 3 Marlin and 1 Sailfish, but couldn't get close enough to entice them. Tomorrow we'll try for Roosters again.

7/2/2023 - Sunday


"Greetings: The arrival of the full moon slowed down the Dorado hunt and shifted our focus again to Roosters. My boat partner caught around 14 and I caught a few more. They were mostly small ones but I did get two over 15 pounds, and we plan to come back to the same spot tomorrow. We found a lot of Sargasso patches but "nobody home" so when the moon starts to wane we should be back to normal.

7/4/2023 - Tuesday


"Greetings: The seas were very rough today and we only saw one Dorado and I caught it. We decided to go back inshore for Roosterfish and got into an aggressive bunch and we nailed them pretty good. I used the large Baja Sardine and they seemed to like it. Looking forward to new faces coming in Thursday.

7/7/2023 - Friday


"Greetings: It looks like the Dorado may have turned the corner with the big super moon going away. Today is the first day of the annual 3-day tournament and the biggest Dorado caught came in at 39 pounds. There were lots of others caught in the high thirty's. My boat partner had a 35-pounder all the way up to the boat but his line broke 5 feet away. We didn't stop for Roosters today and tomorrow I'm looking forward to hunting my own trophy.
