Upper Sac: When will it become fishable?

I would say Putah Creek and the LT are two “gimmes”. Many don’t like Putah at higher flows but for me the more water the better.

I drove past the Truckee on Friday. It would definitely be fishable above Boca.

I fished the Truckee on Friday. High but very fishable above Boca inflow. A little tougher to access the water in town with the high water. I fished down in the canyon, below Boca. Very high water. Lots of walking to fish some soft Corners and holes. The flow in the main current if high and unfishable. Safety is key here, no fish is that important. There are fish being caught in the lower river, not many, but they are.

The river is dropping, might be another month for very good conditions. The entire system conditions throughout the area up there will be good all summer. Who knows, maybe August will be peak season if bugs still come off?

Back to the original question of the thread, the USac is below 1400 and should be coming into good shape this weekend for adventurous, agile anglers. Be careful wading much at those higher flows though, especially if you don’t know your spots well.

Thanks for the update, PV. I probably won't be up there until early July, unfortunately -- but sounds like it'll be just fine by that point.

Also good to see the gauge is fixed.

There is some doubt about that.

The gauge is showing a nice steady drop in the flows, which may be true but
we (locals who fish the river a lot) do not think that the absolute numbers are
accurate.
Yesterday flows were reported as 1200, I did a bit of scouting to check some of my high
water spots and the flows looked to be much higher than 1200 would suggest.

No way to know for sure, but at this time I do not trust the gauge numbers.

So this week-end the Upper Sac here in town dropped a lot.
It is not showing significant a change on the gauge but
I just fished a run at Soda Creek that I also fished Friday evening
and from Friday to today (Sunday) the river dropped 8-12 inches.

I suspect that means the spillway on Lake Siskiyou just quit overflowing.

Just fished a few hours for the evening dry fly action.
fair numbers of fish rising from about 7:00 to 8:30
eating size 14 Pink Cahills and Yellow Humpys.
