Default 30 years after "The Movie."

    "A River Runs Through It."

It is an amazing movie about real life and the early days of fly fishing in Montana.

Some of it reminded me of my days with my brother Dick who is a great athlete and top fly fisher.

30 years ago 'Sacramento News & Review' offered Kiene's Fly Shop the exclusive premiere, the first showing of the movie in Sacramento.

It cost us $600.00 and was a really good thing for the shop.

We did get two large heavy cardboard tubes with about 100 beautiful large 3' x 2' color movie posters.

We sold the unframed large color posters for $10.00 for years but now they are worth lots more.

It’s a beautiful story. The book remains my favorite read of all time. I thought the movie was a fitting and thoughtful tribute to the book. Redford did a respectable and respectful job. I have no strong feelings about the movie’s impact on the world of fly fishing. But I wasn’t in the industry. It’s cool that Walton Powell’s Hexagraph rods were used in the film.
There are few things in life more pleasing than the sublime marriage of form and function that is found in a well crafted fly rod.

Some of my Montana friends refer to the movie as A Realtor Runs Through It.........

A private joke inside the industry a few years later was: "We need another movie."

I guess the next few years (summers) in Montana, after the movie, it was a "heyday" for fly shops and fly guides.

You could rewatch that movie every few years.
