Default Shore/Beach Fly Fishing in Puerto Vallarta Advice

I am seeking advice on fly fishing from the shore/beach in the Puerto Vallarta area. I already have a guide trip dialed in for a boat but I may want to DIY some fishing too. Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you.

Almost everywhere in the tropics you can get up "extremely" early and walk the beach, even at the resorts.

Take a 9' 4pc #7, 8 or 9 line fly rod with a weight forward floating line, 9' Bonefish leader with chartreuse over white #2 Clousers.

You can surgeon knot on a 24" bite tippet of 20# test and use a non-slip loop knot to the fly.

You can wade a little or go along the rocks and cast as far as possible and then strip in the fly with your tip down some.

Look for any surface movements or nervous water and cast to it.

Sometimes schools of Jacks come in the shallows early to eat the bait fish.

All you have to do is get your fly in them or in front of them and strip.

This happens fast so running after them is a norm.

This happens all over the southern coasts in North America too.

At the East Cape I believe May/June is Roosterfish time and October is another time to go there for serious week-long guided trips.

Andy Guibord and Jim Christensen use to take groups to the East Cape and their favorite guide said it was good all summer too.

All the coastline of Florida has surf fishing too, on both sides, the Atlantic and Gulf.

In the summer on the Gulf side (west), they walk the beach for Snook.

In Sept/Oct on the Atlantic side (east) we have the "Fall Mullet run" where millions of Mullet go south on the surf for miles to get warm.

There are unreal videos with huge gamefish feeding wildly right off the sand.

There are big Tarpon, big Snook, big Redfish and big Sharks going crazy.

Early and late is best with flies. Some use streamers and some use poppers.

For the surf, I like a 9'#9 line fly rod for medium-size streamers and a 9' #10 line for poppers.

Fly rods with the latest generation of composites are more expensive but much lighter and cast better too.

Here on the central east coast of Florida, we have schools of Jack Crevalle come into the shallows and beat up the Mullet schools

almost any time of day. You have to be fast though. AM and PM is usually best.
