    Default Shack-nasties at 4700 feet

I know you folks in the Valley have been pummeled by rain...raising the rivers to unfishable levels, causing the highly infectious "shack-nasties".

Well, up here on the eastern side of the Sierra range we've been pummeled by snow and some pretty cold temperatures as of lately. All of my local fishing holes are frozen over for now and it looks like I won't be casting a line for another four weeks or so

The dreaded cause of the Eastern Sierra/Carson City Shack nasties.

Good thing I shoveled snow from the driveway yesterday morning @ 5 degrees instead of waiting for today!!!!!

Dang frozen water in the winter...................

Default not so bad at 2200 FT

Here in Dunsmuir most of the snow is melted off under 3,000 ft.

Upper Sac is just under 1,000 CFS. Sorta fish-able just south of town.

Took a little drive today just to see if I could get to Ash Camp on the McCloud.

Road work that has had the road closed for the last two years is supposed to be done by now.
Unfortunately I could not make it.

Got to the turn off to the McCloud lake boat ramp and no further.

Road was ice covered past that point. It looked passable but sketchy and
I was not willing to take a chance on getting stuck or sliding off the road.

Couple of feet of snow on the ground up around 4,000 FT.

Someone younger and braver than I might be able to make it with studded tires but I would not bet on it.

So came back to the Sac and fished the Conant area for a couple of hours.

Zippo, not even a grab, but the sun was shining and water was nice looking even if a bit big.
