    Default Rogue fishing report

Two of us went up Thursday and Friday of last week and fished the Rogue from Medford down to Gold Hill with Jim Andras. The two days were very different. On Thursday we landed a good number of fish between the 2 of us. Most were smaller 20" - 24" fish, with about even dispersion between wild and hatchery fish. On Friday, we had fewer hookups and fish landed, but we got into some nicer 6-8 lb. wild fish. Friday was a much busier day on the water, with 9 other boats at our take-out. Jim is a great guide, and person to spend time with on the water. His knowledge of the river is very, very good.

We got to witness a most classic low hole move by another guide boat, unfortunately pulled on us. The other guide indicates that they would like to pass us in a run we have just begun working. He then proceeds to slide into our run right below us and makes 5 passes on the run!!!! In a total karma moment, they hook and lose 1 fish in the 5 passes that they make in the run. We come first pass behind them, mowing their lawn, and land 2 fish on the first pass. We got a good laugh out of that and popped a beer to congratulate ourselves.

I thought the river fished very well, there was action most of the day on both days. Now, we need to get some rain and have the coastal rivers open up.

All guides are not created equal (have experienced what you described more than once), and love that karma was instantaneous and on your side!
