Thread: Pyramid Opener

  1. #1

    Default Pyramid Opener

Fished the opener on Saturday. Not as crazy good as last year. Water was a little warmer, fish we definitely deeper. Tons of bait balls but in 30-100ft of water as opposed to 20ft last year. Had to really dredge with heavy sinking line and long wait before you bring it back. Sonar helps, could focus on suspended bait balls. Landed 8 which was a good day, but last year it was 200+lbs of fish in 6 hrs. Hopefully as the water cools the fish will move up a little. Good luck out there. Katz

Nice fish. I have never fished the opener but I hope I get the chance one year.

50 years ago the timing I remember was to start head up there in November and quit in maybe March.

I remember about 20 years ago it was very popular in the Spring, Aril/May? for lots of ~20" Cuts.

With these "New-Old Cuts" I am not sure about the timing but they are beautiful.

This new found old strain has really put Pyramid Lake back in the News.

50 years ago the old Sacramento fly fishing club, the "California Fly Fishers Unlimited" had a annual outing in February.

I'm thinking about going out in a couple of weeks. I can't say I love Pyramid when a spinning rod and a jig is the more appropriate equipment.

Nice fish and report. I will wait for much cooler weather, clouds, and shallower bite. Cheaper gas would be nice too.

In Florida at the Walmart by our home it is $2.97 and my cousin in Southern Cal said it was $6.49

I guess that is the cost of living in wonderful California?
