A couple of hours ago, it was announced that Louie passed away today. I did not know Louie personally, but Louie was a frequent visitor of this board and an expert and accomplished fly fisherman. I also followed him on Facebook. He and I shared the passion for bone fishing which he targeted mainly around the island of Oahu, Hawaii. He carved also hooks and fishes out of bones. He also was a talented musician. Until the end, he fished, even whilst using a walker! What an inspiration. He always had that smile on his face and he surely lived the day. I will miss him dearly.

Yes he way a fly fishing celebrity as well.....because he enjoyed the outdoors, the fishing and the people he met.

Never met him face to face but had contact with him several times as many did over the years.

I traded him some new SW fly lines for some of his amazing carvings.

He carved a wonderful Bonefish for my wife Marilyn because she loved Christmas Island.

Louie carved me a beautiful Tarpon because I am small to medium size Tarpon kind of guy.

I am sure his life was just an amazing one.....

Thanks for posting that video Bill. I am with Louie at the end of the film. He got that nice 5lb bone on his "rubber cumber" fly. He was using the TFO rod I got him and wearing the Haber vision glasses I hooked him up with. Louie was a character and a great friend. His son Jaoquin is a great guide in his own right and the whole family was very loving and supportive and fun to be with. I knew he was battling cancer and it is too bad he lost his battle. Louie will be missed by all here in the Hawaii fishing community. I have a couple of his fish hooks and have enjoyed his harmonica sessions at various Waikiki dives. Louie was a kind and generous man and loved hooking bonefish. He was my friend and we always had a great time together. Don.

    Very nice Don....

Sadly, I never met him in person but did have some good phone calls with him.

Like most here, he had an exciting, full life.

What a bummer. I have one of Louie’s carvings and he was instrumental in helping plan some of my first trips to NZ including e-introductions to wonderful guides and fellow anglers. Thanks Louie for all you added to the global fly fishing community.
