Default Fly fishing for Peacock Bass in Brazil's Amazon.

This trip is on my "Top Ten Trips of My Lifetime" list.

There is only one outfitter, River Plate Outfitters, I would recommend because they can move their floating camp up or down

stream to stay in the best water conditions for fly fishing. Liveaboards draft too much water depth so they are limited to deeper water.

Land based lodges can't move with the extreme water levels so they can be too low or too high for good fly fishing.

Captain Andy Guibord at Kiene's Fly Shop has been on this amazing trip with groups of our customers.

We use high end 9 weight fly rods because they are very light for casting all day long and fighting powerful fish.

Sage and Orvis seem to be the most popular great casting and very light weight too.

We used #9 Rio "Outbound Short Tropical" floating fly lines.

Very simple, very heavy leaders are need and this is the only trip you have to have a stripping glove for.

We found that the #2/0 Umpqua Airhead fly in Yellow/Red was great for us.

My largest is 17# and my cousin Steve got one 19#.

Regulars like Jerry Lyerly and Jim Christianson have landed several over 20#.

Any Peacock over 15# is a fight of your lifetime.

We were helped by our good friends at the Reno Fly Shop getting setup for our first trip to Brazil.

    That's good Carl.....

I know your flies are tied well and don't "self district " on one big fish.

Carl's Airheads are indestructible. We caught roosters and dorado (plus a bunch of pesky needlefish) on them in Mexico and while we shredded some Crease Flies, the Airheads we got from Carl were bulletproof.

We caught all our Peacock Bass in Brazil on 9 weight outfits, floating lines, 30# FC leaders, and #2/0 Red/Yellow Airheads.

My largest Peacock for the week was a 17#er and my cousin, Steve Cotta, got a 19# beast.

That was the only week in my entire life where I needed a stripping glove.

In southern Florida in the fresh water ponds, lakes and canals we have Peacock bass to 9.11#.

World fly fishing record is in Brazil and over 25#.

Sacramento veteran fly fishers, Jim Christensen and Jerry Lyerly, have both caught Peacock bass well over 20#.

I just got back from fishing the Amazon with Bucket List Fly Fishing who also moves their floating camp sites to different parts of the river while you fish. I can not recommend Rob and Bucket List Fly Fishing enough. I had an awesome time in the Amazon and can't wait to go back in January. I even caught the biggest fish of the trip!!! The food was outstanding and the whole set up was amazing. Such a well organized outfit that I highly recommend.

Rob Anderson (from the old Reno Fly Shop gang) now has "Bucket List Fly Fishing" travel service.

    https://bucketlistflyfishing.com/

Rob also still guides around the Truckee/Pyramid/Reno area with a group of other top guides.

Rob generously helped us at Kiene's get going on our first trips through "River Plate Outfitters" for Peacocks........the best in Brazil.

Today, I would have to recommend that most should go through Rob's "Bucket List Fly Fishing" to Brazil's Amazon for Peacocks.

Getting properly outfitted for this trip is a very serious thing so Rob is Number One in that respect..

In Sacramento Jim Christensen, Andy Guibord and I have all been on the "River Plate Outfitters" trips to Brazil for Peacocks.
