    Default Down In The Delta

Some days they bite and some days they don't. There was a big high tide early this morning which I think they may not have liked or maybe they fed all night on the full moon. Who knows. This time of year if the wind is light that is the time to go. I did get some bass and one striper about 21". The striper hit the surface near me and I got him to grab my top water bug. Not a great day of fishing but a pretty good day of photo taking.

You have to get up early if you want to get the top water bite.

Get the kayak in the water before the sun is up.

Western kingbirds are nesting and stay near the nest which makes them easy to photograph.

I am thinking this fluffy guy is just out of the nest.

Male house finch. Good looking bird.

Male Bullocks oriole. He is a pretty intense dude. I saw him run off a couple of other birds.

Snowy egret showing off his fancy yellow shoes.

    Mourning dove.

    The western pond turtle.

Angler with fish. A couple of common critters in the delta.

The Delta is a magic place to go.

Going out early this time of year is a good thing.

I want to come back as a turtle?

    That Egret is so beautiful.

    Default Delta Critters....

WOW!! Those first two photos are stunning. Dawn in the Delta is always amazing (even in winter). All of the bird photos are really good but the Bullocks Oriole is great. I've never seen one down there before. Guess I should pay more attention to what's going on around me while fishing. As always, thanks for sharing....

The Delta is a special place. It has been modified from what it originally was but there is still a lot there to like. I am amazed I lived so close to it for 50 years and never really appreciated it.

I like the oriole. It is such a bright yellow. I am not sure I have seen the oriole before. I have a bird book and it was not marked down in it. I was shooting the kingbird and the oriole flew into the tree right in front of me and stayed for a while. That was some good birding luck. I like that moon photo. The sky was not that black but if you expose for the moon the sky comes out very black and makes the moon really stand out.

I got a new 500 mm lens. It is a big commitment to photography but you can see a big upgrade in the resolution in some of the shots.

Andy Guibord is a pretty good photographer too and I know that high resolution is his number one consideration.

You need to haul some heavy, expensive equipment around, keep it protected but be able to get it out fairly easily. Sometimes you just want to fish but sometimes it is good to mix it up especially if the photo opportunities are good.

I am not any kind of photographer but Andy Guibord gets excited about the low soft light in the mornings an evenings.

Andy knows about dry bags for protection too.

    Sometimes I wish I had a good DSLR and a 500 m/m.

Like most I just have a Smart Phone with a fair camera now.
