    Default Trinity....June?

    Hi All,
It has been a while since I have been able to get out and now I have the chance it is still limited, so I am looking to maximize my time fishing by trying something other than my usual hiking in miles off the beaten path. I will be headed toward the "Inland Empire" via 299 later this month and thought I might try to fish the Trinity near Lewiston. This is something I have done quite a bit for steelhead but never is summer (Hard to imagine being on the Trinity and not in six layers of clothes)

Is there trout activity to be found around Lewiston in late June?

I am thinking about the Fly Fishing Only section.

Or, am I better off getting my butt to the Upper Sac, below Dunsmuir?

As always, thanks for any advice.

I learned to fly fish on the Trinity in the summer months almost 20 years ago! Herb set me up with my first rod, a Cortland 5wt, some nymphs and gave me a quick casting lesson on the lawn in front of the fly shop. Told me to head up to the Fly Only Water and that was it for me! My first day I hooked into so many feisty little trout and all on the swing. I never went back to conventional gear after that.... This was long before I knew anything about steelhead. Wet wading in the warm summer air is hard to beat! Lewiston Reservoir can be really productive too. I also would fish the big lake where streams came in and usually did pretty well. Stuarts Fork was always a favorite of mine..... So, Hell yes! Fish it and enjoy.

Contact the Trinity Fly Shop in Lewiston, CA on the Trinity river below Trinity Lake.

Owners Herb and Pat Burton are the "real deal"..........

They fish classic fly fishing methods that are pretty rare today.

They have been there over 30 years now so they have great advice.

If you have a float tube or pontoon fishing the upper Lewiston reservoir from the dam down to the Marina is always fun too.
