There are few things in life more pleasing than the sublime marriage of form and function that is found in a well crafted fly rod.

For over 20 years Kiene's fly shop groups fished out of almost every lodge and islands with cabins on the Caribbean coast of Belize.

Turneffe Flats Lodge was one of the best serious fly fishing lodges with some scuba and snorkeling.

It is on one of the three atolls out in the deep blue waters of the Caribbean.

They have a beautiful lodge with great meals.

Cabins are duplex with modern construction with real ducted AC unites.

They have the best and largest Bonefish in Belize.

They also have plenty of hard to catch Permit.

Certain months they have big Tarpon.......? June?

They have some of the most famous fly fishing guides in Belize.

They had the best selection of flies for the area that would rival most top fly shops.

Every day or so we let our guides pick out more flies for our next day's fishing.

The most important single outfit would be a 9 weight outfit with a good tropical/warm water floating line.

I would take any 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 weight outfit you have or can borrow.

If you are there when the Tarpon are supposed to be there I would have a 10, 11 or 12 weight with a integrated Rio Out Bound Short

Tropical type 6 or faster sinking head for fishing big Tarpon on the outgoing tide in deep cuts in the reefs.

They will have leaders and flies you can purchase at the lodge but take some with you.

Their Bonefish flies are tiny...size 8/10?

Have a good hat or two.

Have some light colored Amber, Lt Brown or yellow polarized glasses.

You casting skills will dictate your success more than almost anything else.

I've been there a few times. Definitely one of the lodges that rank at the top. They have rental equipment, a great selection of flies, fantastic guides, lodging is designed with the smaller waterfront cabins. We stayed in the big houses behind that had 4 bedrooms.

The last time I was there we had one hell of a thunder storm. I have never seen lightning lite up the area to where it seemed like daylight, thunder that would rattle your teeth.
BUT, I can't get away from my target species, the ROOSTER FISH.
