The Southern Cays of Cuba have been a sanctuary for 30 years with with only a little catch-n-release fly fishing.

The Avalon company has the exclusive rights to all this fishing with liveaboards, a floating lodge and some island based lodges.

I would include a few days in Havana if you can........it is amazing.

April, May and June are the months for their adult Tarpon migration.

Those weeks are sold as a premium but other months can be gotten for a better price.

What makes their adult Tarpon different is the fact that the fish are way less spooky, and average 40 to over 100#.

Their Tarpon come onto much shallower flats and can actually be caught by most decent casters.

Most use a 10 weight outfit with a floating line so it is more doable for most.

The other 9 months of the year are less expensive but have all varieties of flat fish and more than Florida Keys.

In the warmer months baby Tarpon 5 to 40# are available plus huge schools of bone fishing.

There are Permit and Snook there as well with actually lots of varieties of Snappers too.

Every flat fishing angler should have Cuba at the top of their "Bucket List".

Kiene's Fly Shop Travel Department has very good knowledge about setting up a trip to Cuba through Avalon Fishing.
