Default We hooked 4 baby Tarpon this morning from 7am till 9am.

We have an access on the upper South Fork of the Sebastian River in Florida.

Next time we go we will be there at 6am because they are feeding wildly then.

Because we are on the edge of a wild "jungle" river we can't fly cast so we use light spinning tackle.

When we take a boat up there we fly fish for them.

Three were around 20# and one was around 10#.

They jumped wildly and eventually all threw the hook.

Here is a good video that pretty much shows what we are doing but it is a little more open there:

man I am jealous- my last job had me in the tampa area a number of times, and I fished it hard, but never did hook up.

Snook and tarpon are bucket list all the way

Tarpon are along every inch of the Florida coast, on both the Gulf and the Atlantic sides.

Snook are from about half way down each coast to the bottom of the state.

Above the midway point Snook can die from the cold snaps in the winter time.

Inshore, up creeks, rivers and lagoons the baby Tarpon are here year round but the warm months are best.

Find days with very low winds. Summer rain is not a problem. Alligators are not a problem either.

In the warm months extremely early is the best fishing, then overcast days are good and evenings are good too.

Afternoons usually suck......a guide in Belize said the fish start to feed as soon as they can see and by noon the are full.

In Florida during the warm months many get up at 5am and fish till maybe noon.

Then go home and take a break and go out at 9pm till mid-night fishing from skiffs under the lights on the docks and bridges.

Tides are very important too. It really effects the fish but we most fish Monday through Friday and look for days with low wind.

10 miles and hour or less is good. 15 is too much for boat control and fly casting.

Here in south Florida kids make videos where they ride their bicycle with a few rods and a back pack.

They fish creeks, canals and ponds for Tarpon, Snook, black bass, exotics and Peacock bass to 10#.

Get a place down in the south for winter fishing and a place up north for summer fishing.

Florida would be my pick for Winters and the coast up north on either side of America would be my Summer place.

Many would go to maybe Montana for their Summer place.

I have fished the inshore / flats for about 40 years now all over the tropics.

Contact me if your coming to Florida. It can be year round fishing but it will be different.

There are thousands of wonderful videos on YouTube about fishing Florida.
