A nice guy in a local tackle shop told me about this secret spot to walk into the river for baby Tarpon and Snook.

I walked in a half-mile on a narrow trail through a jungle preserve with turkeys, fox, bobcat, deer, pigs and cougars.

It is so brushy all we can do in use spinning tackle and lures for baby Tarpon and Snook.

First day I went by myself I hooked a 20# silver beauty that on the third big jump got off.

There were lots of Taron rolling that first day and I lost my plastic lure on that Tarpon so I had to quit.

Next morning my fishing partner, Steve Potter from Tracy, went with me.

That second day there were fewer Tarpon rolling and Steve had a 10# Tarpon on for several jumps.

Third morning, today, Steve and I went at 6:00am and walked in the dark with the light of my iPhone.

We got to the water in the dark and all kinds of fish were chasing down bait on top and it was crazy wild.

We forgot to take any top water lures like Zara Spooks so we were probably going under them with our lures.

When it got a little light I got a small Snook. Then I landed a small Tarpon.

Had another Tarpon on for 3-4 jumps and lost it at the bank.

We fish the river from our boats too but this is just so easy, fast and fun.

Largest we hooked so far from our boats was around 40# but after 4 long runs and jumps it go off.

We might go every morning?

The only problem with Florida is that all the fresh was ponds, canals, rivers and lakes have bass and panfish.

Then we have a 100 mile plus intercoastal water way , the Indian River lagoon.

We have little bays, rivers, creeks and surf fishing and off shore fishing too.

I fished every mile of the coast of Belize and many lodges for 20 years or more and Florida is actually better fishing.
