Tip #11 - If you want to ensure that you can fish throughout the day regardless of what the weather throws at you, use a heavier rod. I personally use a #7 12' spey rod that is light in hand so that I can cut through the wind while indicator fishing. I am also seeing more and more people use #9 single hand rods for their stripping setup. Don't get me wrong, there are days when you can get away with a #5 switch/spey rod and a #7 single hand rod....but then there are days when the wind is INSANE and the line will fall 10' in front of you if you aren't using heavier gear.
