Default Hot Creek possible strip mine across from the hatchery.

There is a Canadian company, Kore Mining, that wants to start exploratory drilling for a strip mine, it is located across the river from Hot Creek Ranch and the hatchery. Current plans are to drill multiple core holes at several locations in this area to determine the viability of the site. If cores prove productive there is plans to do shallow strip mining and use cyanide to leech out the gold. While this areas has severely been affected by the drought they plan to use a lot of water and tailing ponds in a highly volcanic area. Does not sound smart to me.

Thank you for posting this Tcorfey!!!!!!! If I remember correctly, there was talk of this or something similar a few years ago? I will try to do more research so I can have a more informed argument when i submit a comment. Bill, I know your comment was maybe tongue in cheek, but I do think this proposal and Pebble Mine etc. can allow us to overcome ideology in that many in our community with differing political views can come together to oppose the destruction of the great fisheries that we still have. I first fished Hot Creek in my early 20s and showed up one evening in late June or July when there were multiple hatches going off. caddis everywhere, mayflies, midges flying into my eyes and up my nose. Tied on a Griffiths gnat and hooked fish after fish up to 20" until it got too dark. absolutely mind-bending experience, had caught mostly small fish on dries as a kid and had never experienced anything like that having mostly nymphed and fished streamers. would be very bummed to see this one ruined, drought is/will be hard enough.

This is the kind of bullshit the Republicans pull on America when they are in power so I just don't know how this is happening? Are the

Democrats in power now or what?

Most people my age already know that both parties are totally corrupt and one big happy criminal family.

Many are more worried about climate change and the ecology while Russia, China and possibly Iran are getting together to take down the

West World. I guess it all depends on what is important to each of us.

If the Western World let's Russia kill thousands of Ukrainian men, women and children then we are all finished.

Like a lazy snake in the grass Kore Mining will persist on this effort. While this exploration most likely will have little long term impact on Hot Creek it must be vigorously opposed just to get the message across to Kore Mining to keep their greasy commonwealth hands off our precious land and if they think they can mine here they are are up for a fight on the scale of the Pebble Mine. Yeah be upset about this. Please comment on this and give Collen Garcia a lot to show in opposition to this stupid concept. Step on the snake!

    tcorfey-

Thank you for posting this! I linked it to https://www.highsierratopix.com in their fishing section. It would be nice if Ms.Garcia's inbox was flooded with emails in opposition to this plan.

I was all thinking that this mine could endanger not just Hot creek, but the Upper Owens as well, which we all know, flows into Crowley Lake, the lower Owens and ultimately into the LA basin. I can't imagine that people in LA would be OK with a potential water polluter upstream from a major source of their water, even if it is a few hundred miles away. Let's put an end to this dumb idea!

    Best,
