    Default 299 Traffic Controls?

    Hello Swingers,

Has anyone been to the Trinity lately? How are the traffic controls down river of Big Flat? Heading up next Thursday and curious if it's possible to get below Big Bar/Del Loma?

Join me in some rain dancing this week would you!

    Jay

Yes, it's possible. But it's a mess. Limited windows available for transit. Check CalTrans website for current transit windows available. If you can plan around them, it's doable.

Also note, the Big Bar/Del Loma areas of the river are technically closed to use due to the fires until Jan 2022. You could be cited (although that may be unlikely), and the fine is hefty.

We were up there last week, staying right by the closure. The bottom line is that getting through is a PIA, and the Del Loma stretch is, as noted above, technically closed. On top of that the fishing is slow. I went 1 for 2 over 2 days swinging, the 1 being a small 22” wild hen. My buddy, who is one of the fishiest guys I’ve ever known, did about the same nymphing. It’s worth the run to the Klamath, which fished well from Seiad Valley to I-5. The Scott also looked good, drove it last Monday afternoon but didn’t fish.

Trinity was pretty hot for a bit after that big rain with the early fish, but the issue with that river is always that the water gets cold and the fish get stale when we go through long dry stretches. It always fishes best on the drop after a good soaker, even better if we can actually get a steady parade of modest storms that keep the water warmer and the fish moving around.

Looks like the weather might change a bit going into the back half of the month with the big ridge retreating, and hopefully the closure is lifted for the lower sections in January which could make for some decent fishing up that way.

I see it's raining up there right now. Yeah. With King tides this past weekend, maybe a few fresh fish entered the system and more weather for this coming weekend(Fingers crossed). Heading up Thursday night and fishing through Monday. Probably going to be cold and wet. I can take it and I can't wait! A friend/guide just posted a picture on FB of a massive male (maybe 15lbs) caught this weekend.
