I fished the Fall River, Pit, Hat Creek and McCloud for many years. That's when I worked for PG&E and stayed in the cabins just above Lake Britton. I also drove up there on many occasions just for a weekend fishing trip. A long ways to drive but well worth it.

It was all so good in the 1970s................everyone drove north to fish back then.

It is sobering to read Dan's post. He caught a dozen fish under indicators.

My folks lived in Fall River during the hey day of Hat Creek and Fall River. Needless to say, I camped out there for weeks at a time during the PMD spinner fall and the Hex hatch. We didn't carry nymphs much less indicators. I was never one to count fish, but my buddy Bob Quigley kept a steel eyed focus on how many we caught or lost. One morning at the cable we fished from about 9:00 - 1:00pm and landed, between the two of us, 66 fish all on spinners. Times have changed.

    Spot on Ralph......

Back then everyone mostly matched the hatch on the surface.

We were all fly fishing "wannabees" in the 1970s and students of Bob Quigley's generosity.

Bob was so good to everyone and always had such a warm smile on his face.

Bob did have a wonderful life with fly fishing and fly tying a daily thing for him.

Back then indicators did not exist yet.
