    Default Lake Spaulding

Not a great place to get away from the smoke right now but some fish biting. Got the chance to fish during lunch today for about 20 minutes from the shore and caught 3 rainbows. These were the bigger two of the three.

Nice looking fish. Lake Spaulding has never been in my radar, might have to reconsider.

Caught another today and lost one. The rod is an older St Croix Imperial that I keep in the truck.

There is a boat launch but I believe that the public access to it will be closed for the season shortly. The lake is getting low and there will be no more ramp soon. I'm guessing within a week. I'm not sure if they will close all access or just boat access.

Last summer they drained the lake down to about 30 feet for dam repairs and exposed the original dam. Amazing how well things are preserved under the lake.

I used to troll that lake for large Brown trout but, then it slowed way down. Later I focused on the mouths of the south Yuba and Fordyce creek for smaller Rainbow trout on Wooly Buggers. Have not been up there in a dozen years though good to see the fishery coming back.
