Default Off to the Big Hole!

Time for what has become our annual Montana fishing expedition. This year is the Big Hole Valley for 8 days once again. Unfortunately, the water situation in the Big Hole is very similar to here this year. Several stretches of the Big Hole are under Hoot Owl restriction and they close at 2 pm to fishing. The Jefferson is closed altogether.

The Beaverhead is fully open and fishing well. Stretches of the Big Hole are fully open. The Ruby is open, and I think we’ll run into the Madison for a few days this year. Same time last year, we were blown out for the first 3 days. Might hit Wise River too. I think it will be a year with a number of game time decisions.

No matter what, it always works out and we look forward to this trip big time.

Spent the past three weeks there. Our fishing in two words: Hot and Crowded. We came home early. Hopefully both the weather and the crowds will mellow out for your trip.

Damn. When it gets like that, we have a couple of finds that we’ll head to there . . . Big Sheep Creek, Wise River and Jerry Creek. I hope things have changed. Sounds like you nailed the Salmonfly hatch there. . . But also the one crowd that comes with it?

Not a lot of snowpack in those drainages this year unfortunately.
