I got a last minute opportunity to spend a couple of days in South Florida, based out of Stuart. In the salt, unfortunately, the fishing was a lot better than the catching. I had one guided day and fished most of it off the beaches of north Jupiter Island. Cast to several sizable pods of tarpon in the 70-150 pound range, but they just weren't eating flies that day. Had one apparent take, but the line just never came tight on the strip set. Saw several large schools of 20-30 pounds jacks, but they were deep and very spooky. Caught a few unremarkable jacks in the surf. Not a lot of snook in the surf yet.
One day I spent on foot in the freshwater somewhat was more productive. One of my better bass on a fly and a new species for me. Unfortunately, a peacock was not to be.
Good to see a place where it rains some too.
