Default Summer of 2021 in the Tetons

Starting late next week, I’ll be spending much of the coming summer at my place in East Idaho. I’ll try to keep this thread updated with some reports and fish porn. My photo quality will not rival John’s.

This is the view out the front of the house from last fall. The sunsets are always great but seem more vibrant in the fall since higher thinner clouds are more common then.

We were out for a couple weeks back in March. Spring managed to spring on a few days between the snow and we found some streamer eating cutties on the south fork.

The flows are way up now and wading even in the side channels might be a fools errand. We booked a float trip today, for June 6th, with Teton Valley Lodge. Likely on the HF.

Our place is 5’ from the Teton River, 30’ from Swan Valley, and 45-60’ from the HF.

Sounds like you have a great place and am looking forward to seeing the reports. I'll be in Last Chance/Ashton the last week of June for the green drakes. Its a magical place that time of year

My first trip ever on the MF Salmon is this year in August. Private trip. My wife will be in a hard shell kayak, and I will split between kayaking and rowing a gear raft. Bunch of fishermen (and women) on the trip so I hope to be able to fish a bit while floating, although I expect most of my fishing will be from camp in the mornings and evenings.

Teton Valley is insanely crowded these days and currently overrun with meth. Not what it used to be.

    Looks fantastic

Hoping to be back up in Ketchum June - sept before having to be back in the office

Love being close to fishing and beautiful outdoors vs 4 hour drive when in SF.

For months I've been buying fly tying stuff from Keanes and tying flies

I have not been able to get out fishing too much, it's bigtime runoff right now and the tribs are closed for cutthroat spawning season.

Yesterday I did take a day trip up to Yellowstone to fish the Firehole. Fishing was very good with sporadic hatches of creamy white mayflies, dark caddis, and a few big salmonflies in the mix. As usual, soft hackles on the swing were very productive and made for a fun day. I hooked a couple of bigger fish but lost them both. Most of the action was on the typical 10" variety of browns and rainbows.

The park is getting crowded for summer already and lots of bison traffic jams on the drive from West Yellowstone to Madison Junction. We will try to get out to the quieter east side later this summer, but probably will not get to the FH again until after mid-October when things die down.

We are doing a float trip with TVL on either the HF or SF on Sunday, I'll update the pics after that.
