Since you guy's are spanking the shad, stripers, bass and everything else..........................
Today I decided to follow Woodman's lead !!!!
Pulled out of the driveway around 9:30 and was at the lake (between Carson City and Tahoe South Shore) right around 10:00.
I put my required donation of $ 10.00 in the Iron Ranger at the entrance station and found almost no-one at the lake.
My rod of choice today was a 10' 2/3 wt that I just finished rolling a couple of weeks ago.
I made it into a nifty little two hander for roll casting while wading off the shore.
I've lined it with a Rage Compact @ 270 grains, and the old green Airflo Miracle braid for the running line.
It roll casts just right.
Anyhow, I wandered down to the lake and found an easterly wind blowing directly onshore of where I wanted to fish....................
I rolled out a cast and and promptly hooked and landed a small 6 inch bow.
Hummm............ maybe a good sign....................
Well the wind wasn't letting me cast far out enough past the weed beds so I reeled up and walked over to the northern shore.
I found a small beach with some clear water (no weeds) and waded out (with waders) to about crotch deep.
I was fishing two midges under an indicator and started hooking and landing smallish rainbows.
The wind FINALLY started to ease up a bit allowing me to roll my casts out a little further.
I then started hooking the Tigers.
It seemed like for the next 5+ hours it was a Tiger fish on every few minutes.
I LDR'd a bunch and missed many, many strikes too.
Oddly enough the chubs weren't as thick as I remember the last time I fished there.
That's good news as far as I'm concerned.
I did hook something that I had zero chance of controlling in the late afternoon.
It ripped out line and then dove into the weeds.
I tried the ole Manzanita trick of giving the fish slack and sure enough it started to move.
I pulled up on the slack and it went back into the weeds, gave it slack again and then no further movement.
It probably was a hold-over with an attitude !!!!!!
So, I had my fun for the day and reeled up right around 6:30 and headed for the car.
I didn't count my fish, but I it was somewhere in the 4 dozen +- range.
About 75% were Tigers, 20% Rainbows, and the remaining 5% were little Chubs.
Unfortunately, the weather forecast for tomorrow is for very high winds, otherwise I'd give it another go tomorrow.
I guess I'll spend some time at the vise tying up some more #14 chartreuse tungsten bead head, black thread body, chartreuse wire ribbed midges..............hint, hint, hint.
I have to admit that Tigers are some really handsome fish.
For the 1/2 hour ride home tonight, a small bag of salted cashews and a Gatorade.
Dang Tiger Trout....................................
