Default Jeff’s 2021 AR Shad Reports

Heard that shad were being caught on the Sac at Freeport and Miller Park so I went to check out Discovery Park. There were no bankies but there were 4 boats anchored near the mud line. I didn’t see any hookups. Fished for a couple hours down low and caught my first shad on a Bloody Maria. There were no other grabs but I did see a small pod in 6” of water. They are not here in big numbers yet but this should improve within the next two weeks.

I talked with Andy last night after he fished Verona and they're already here too. He did okay but some of the boats around him did great, You just had to be in the right line he said.

He also said the Verona marina is open ( $20.00 launch) but you have to be careful after launching as the sand bar there is very shallow and you may have to trim your motor up.

I haven't seen them up here in Yuba City yet but it won't be long till they make it to the Yuba too.

Fished in the am yesterday down low and didn’t get anything. Did some scouting with Capt Andy in the afternoon down in the lower river and we caught one apiece. We saw some stripers too. It’s still early but it’s going to get better!

Andy is at the mouth of the Feather river today.

He said there are Shad at the mouth of the American and the mouth of the Feather rivers.

The mouth of the Feather river has always been an iconic location for all local river species.

If you can park and get to the water and the sand bar is showing this could be a great year

for wading there as we did many years ago.

Is the mouth of the Feather at Verona? I have always heard of it but I have never been there.

The shad still have not really pushed into the American. I’ve been trying every other day and have not gotten any except for the 2 I hooked last week. I’ve noticed a lot more anglers trying but have not seen any hookups. They could show up any day now so I’m going to keep at it!

Thanks for the update, Jeff. I went out on another occasion and went to the river even more south than where I saw you the other day but no action. So instead I went to the Yuba for some trout fun.

Andy said that the MOTF was just OK yesterday but it was very good for a friend in the evening.
