Someone said that the Stripers and Shad spawn much lower in the Sacramento river on a draught year.

I did hear it was a pretty slow spring Striper spawning run this year too.

Thanks for another year of your reports Jeff! I'd bet a double cheeseburger that this board gets the most traffic during the shad run every summer

For me the run started out awesome, and fell off quickly. It's still my favorite time/reason to fish the American. Shad rule.

In the last month I’ve been fishing for steelhead and stripers. I found shad when they went for my soft hackle flies. Ended up getting over 150 on 11 different days hanging in faster water below drop offs. It was a nice surprise to still get them. Most were spawned out but there were a few that were still thick and full of eggs. Let’s hope we get a wet Winter and more water next Summer.

I'll add to that last post,,,,,, There's still piles of shad here on the Feather too. Not the usual Yuba River type schools you find when fishing up that way, but small groups that are gathered in some of the fast moving eddies.

Yes, they're starting to disappear and move downstream, but this has definitely helped pick up the striper action around here.
