    Default Sturgeon or Stripers

The sturgeon is not normally a kayak-fly rod fish but I tangled with one today. I had what I thought was a snag but it turned into a giant fish that towed me around for a good half hour. At first my hope was big striper but as the battle dragged on I figured it had to be a foul hooked sturgeon. I did not want to break it off without seeing it so I stayed with it. He could easily stay on the bottom so I determined my only chance to see him would be if he went into shallow water which he eventually did. I got a good enough look at him. I will say eight feet but who knows. It was a log. My 8 weight rod was no match for the beast but it did nicely land some stripers today including a nine ponder. I also recently landed a new boat. I took it out once and caught some dinkers. So far the kayak is kicking the boat's butt. The boat needs to get motivated and find me some fish.
