History?? Not so much as trying to understand the migrations of stripers in the ocean, something I've been interested in. According to the report, migrations of Stripers on the east coast is well documented/predictable but little is known about Stripers movement in the Pacific. But, many catches of Stripers are recorded as far south as Santa Monica Bay in SoCal and in Monterey Bay, annually. The migration of stripers to NorCal and Oregon was well documented in the past and, as noted, collapsed as far as anyone can tell.
It would be interesting to find out if Stripers migrate to and are caught routinely in places like the Eel, Klamath, Smith and other river estuaries or bays between here and the Oregon border (Excluding Tomales, Bodega Bays and the Russian River).

Good Darian,
On the East coast they do run up to Maine in the summer and Savannah, GA in the winter.
It seems they like or need to be around rivers and estuaries?
The fisheries folks only seem to really spend the time and money to study fish that are commercially harvested?
Seems like "they" want to get rid of the non-indigenous fish in CA.....including Striped Bass?

The reason mentioned for collapse of the Oregon populations was suspected as inbreeding. Seems like that (limited population numbers) could've been the same outcome of the original stocking of Stripers but wasn't. That's a bit confusing. Did Oregon Stripers fail to migrate and limit their gene pool?? The Striper population in the SF Bay estuary is on the decline as well, just taking more time to happen.

Stripers up to 50# are being caught right now if you can find the salmon smolt. Same action on the Feather a little later and the delta when smolt are released. Great fishing.
