Default Reel size for 7wt switch rod

I am looking at picking up a 7wt switch rod for steelhead and Pyramid Lake fishing. I have a Lamson LP 3.5 and Lamson LP on my single handed Sage 9 wt rod. Will a Lamson LP 3.5 work on a 7 wt switch rod?

It should be OK.....usually they go up 2 sizes like a 9 weight reel for a 7 weight Switch.

I have a 11’ 7wt switch and use both a size 3.5 and size 4 on it interchangeably. I prefer the 3.5 as I feel it balances a little better.

Agree with you. The balance is really good.

Don't know about the LP, but Lamson made 3.5X spools for some models (3.5X spool fits on 3.5 frame). I have Hard Alox II and use the 3.5X spool in an Echo 7wt for bigger rivers, steelhead, etc. The "X" designation is added line capacity.

The loaded weight of the 3.5X is between that of 3.5 and 4.0 reels.
