Default Collector looking for Vintage Hackle?

    I just received this email:

    Bill,

Apologies for the unsolicited email, I got your email from your website. I am a fly fisher, fly tier and hackle collector. If you happen to have or know anyone that may be interested in selling some vintage hackle, please keep me in mind. I am the most interested in Darbee, Miner and Hebert (pre-Whiting); however, I am also interested in some of the other early breeders, as listed below.

Following is a list of some of the chicken breeders I am interested in: Hebert (pre-Whiting), Harry Darbee, Chip Stauffer, Andy Miner, Bill Tobin, Chris Baker, Collins Hackle Farm (early), Ausable, Al’s Grizzly Farm, Bob’s Hackle, Colorado Quality Hackle (CQH), Chanticleer, Whiting Hebert-Miner (Champagne or other rare colors), Conranch, Spencer, Doc Fried, Kuttner, Old Glory, Van Put, Del Mazza, Hoffman (pre-Whiting), Keough (more unusual colors), Metz (more unusual colors or very early), Bittner, George Schlotter (GS) Hackle, Howard, Dette, Cross, Steenrod, Flick, Catizone, PBH, Flagg, Weidner, Potter County, Clearwater, West, etc.

Thanks for keeping me in mind.

    Kind regards,

    Darren Shade

    That is interesting Bill,

There's a name that hasn't come up in any of my tying conversations in eons " Chanticleer ". I might have one or two, same for Collins & Keough's but they'd be pretty well plucked after all these years.

Contacting you was a smart move. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the other retired shop owners might have some of these in their personal stash or know of tiers and customers that did.

I sent Mr Schade an email. I have a couple CQH necks, an old Orvis neck and a full jungle cock neck and saddle. Maybe they'll fit his collection.Click image for larger version.
