Default Two veteran Spey Steelheaders are headed to the upper Klamath river this week.

Kiene's Andy Guibord and his fishing partner Joe Punla are headed to the Seiad Valley on the Klamath river this week.

I wish I was going with them but at 75 my wading ability is more suited to the lower Klamath river's friendly gravel bars.

I am excited for them and wait for a report.

In November top Steelheaders like Al Perryman, Dennis Lee, Mike Folden and Jason Hartwick like to fish the upper reaches around

the Seiad Valley on the upper Klamath river.

About 20 years ago Bob Quigley told me about him fishing the Seiad Valley in November for Steelhead on the Klamath.

Bob said he was using a 9'6" #7 rod with a sink-tip, short leader and classic style winged fly in purple flash.

    Bill,,

Bob Quigley gets my vote as the best fisherman-Fly inventor and guide of anybody that has ever fished or ever tyed a fly. My 2 cents

Carl......you are not alone in that one.

Bob was so good to us "wannabes" back in the 1970s when he helped us like a big brother or cousin.

He was loved by so many people and what a life he had living right on the water.

He always had a sweet smile on his face for us all......like a cheshire cat?

A good book could be written about Bob's adventures or a documentary film?

He spent many winters in Chili, lived on the Fall river, and at Lava Creek Lodge and in Chiloquin on the Williamson river.

Most all his wealthy clients were very jealous of Bob's lifestyle, just as most all of us were.

I only met Bob twice, but I’ll add my vote for one of the most innovative tiers, up there with Gary LaFontaine. My mayfly box is full of Hackle Stackers.

I’ve listened to many of Bob Meiser’s stories about Bob Q over bourbon in Bob’s shop in Central Point. The man lived an, um, interesting life...

November has always been my favorite time to be in that area. It's often wet and cold, usually less people on the water and had my all time best days of Steelheadin'......I hear you Bill on the wading up there...I'm only 55 and it is rough on me too....

The Klamath river is on my top 10 list of wonderful destinations.

If old Joe Shirshac had not taken us 'whipper snappers' there in the 1970s we would not have all our great memories.

We in turn took with us others and helped others go for decades.

If you have someone who is interested in fly fishing and you can get them to cast some then have a good day......yahoo.

You pretty well sum up what it’s all about in this short little post Bill. I feel very lucky for all the amazing places and the great times with good people. As fun as it is hooking fish, I feel that’s the least significant of the things that make fly fishing so special.
