    Default Flies Stolen

A friend of mine had a lifetime's supply of flies lifted from his pickup truck in Redding. All in a backpack. Probably about a dozen boxes stocked full of various patterns. If anyone hears of someone trying to unload a bunch of flies cheap, shoot me a PM. He would like to get his flies back but realizes the chances are slim.

Those flies are useless to 90% of the people.

They will probably take them by a sporting goods store or fly shop.

Maybe 25 years ago some bad guys stole all the fly reels from "The Fly Shop" in Redding, California.

We were alerted by "The Fly Shop" to be looking for them.

A few days later the bad guys called our shop to see if we wanted to buy them.

We told them to bring them by at closing time......we had the sheriffs there waiting for them.

Great story, Bill. Of course, we have already notified The Fly Shop.

A friend of mine had some bikes stolen and he watched Craigslist and they came up. The thief claimed he bought them from someone and was not charged but he got his bikes back.

We lost two of our most expensive fly tying vices (~$200 each) in one day to a shoplifter.

A customer bought them that weekend both for $20 each at Denio's Farmers Market in Roseville, CA.

We hear tons of stolen merchandise is sold there.

We lost 3 top end 4 pc graphite fly rods in one day to a shoplifter.

They tried to sell them to Stan Hellekson at Fly Fishing Specialties in Roseville, CA.

Stan told them to come back later at a specified time and the sheriff was waiting for them.

I got one or two rods back but Stan said they let the boys go because they were already on parole ?

I heard they do not arrest people for car theft anymore?

Keep an eye on Facebook Marketplace and of course Craigslist. I hope you get lucky.

You/your fellow Californians voted for this as a ballot measure in 2014 (Prop 47) and 2016 (Prop 57).

Prop 20 on the current ballot would undo some of these actions and grant more leeway for prosecutors and judges to make a misdemeanor vs. felony decision in bringing a case against someone charged with certain crimes. That said, Prop 20 also has some major problems (IMO)...

The propositions are the most important things we vote on as Californians, arguably more important than president or other national offices, because they have such dramatic impacts on our local society.

I hate to hear it and I feel your friend's pain. My truck was broken into in January, 1998 from my driveway and they took my tackle bag with hundreds of flies, some lines, reels, etc. They left two Sage rods and a couple cane rods so I am sure they thought they were getting a camera bag. It took me years of tying and buying to get my fly boxes back to where I wanted them. My homeowners insurance was great and a relationship with my local fly shop helped a lot with the insurance process. I am still paranoid, take only gear I plan to use, and never leave gear in my truck. I hope your friend is able to recover his flies.
