    Default Red Lake Report 10/08/2020

This is my Red Lake Report dated 10/08/2020............sorry, I couldn't edit/change the Thread Title date.

Well I decided for one last hurrah for the year at Red yesterday.

I've been playing the "car repair" game for the last few months so my weekly day trips have been rather limited.

I blasted off @ 9:30 from home and arrived at Red around 10:30 ish.

Not many cars in the usual parking spots in Hope Valley on the way up and the river was barely a trickle.

There's some stream side construction going on in the upper section.........don't know what that's all about.

Just above Hope Valley there were LOT'S and LOT'S of camera bugs out taking pictures of the fall colors.

At Red, the water level is down about 5-6 feet below the high water mark.

I wadered up and fished from shore around the avalanche cannon for a couple of hours without any strikes using midges under a 'cator...........that treated me well earlier in the season.
The water clarity was good with the exception of the stringy algae that fouled on my bugs 8 out of 10 casts.

Since nuthin' was doing at the south side of the dam, I decided to move to the north end of the dam to see if the "stringy stuff" was a little less there.
Well, it wasn't and I decided to keep on fishing anyways.

I changed my flies and methods ( balanced leeches, leeches, buggers) for an hour or so to no avail and decided to switch back to the 'cator and midges.

Right around 2:15 I had a strike that I missed.
At 2:30 I had another strike, connected and landed a small ( about 12" ) LCT.
    Yippie-skippie..............the skunk was off.

Shortly after I landed my "de-skunk" fish, I had another strike near the surface while setting up for a roll cast.

Around 3:30 I had another strike and connected again.
This was a much larger fish and it went somewhere between 18-20 inches.

I fished for another hour with no more strikes and packed it in @ 4:30.

The weather was overcast all day with the exception of about an hour just before I left.

The two fish I landed took a gold and black beadhead #12 midge just F.Y.I..

Next week, Martis is on the radar...........................................

For the ride home.............. a Payday candy bar, a bottle of Gatorade, and a few pieces of Beef Jerky.

    Dang Cutthroats........................................ .......
