    Default It's August already

Am I the only one who has been thinking about the Klamath? Thinking about going up in the first half of September.

I'm a poor time-starved man living in the Sac area, so I've been thinking about the American. Last year in August I started an 8-month stretch of fishing there every weekend. August had some great action.

i can't wait for this fall, already started tying flies. Will probably wait till October though and spend a few weeks up there, work permitting again. Had excellent fishing the second and third weeks of October last year, unless the fish were sort of late? It was my first time on the Klamath and first time fishing for summer runs in general.

For the first time, we are going to add the 2.5 hours to our drive and fish the Rogue this fall. I am really looking forward to getting on a piece of water that is new to me. I have fished the Trinity extensively, the Klamath a bit, and a reasonable amount on the coast. Looking forward to it.

    Middle/Upper Rogue river:

Al Perryman is my contact with the entire Rogue river and he knows it very well.

Living on the middle Rogue he starts going out after the 4th of July. He fishes almost every day at "Dark Thirty, AM" for a couple of

hours. He uses an ACR 5 weight Spey rod, Scandi head, leader the length of his rod and a #6 dark winged classic wet Steelhead fly.

I think it starts to get better in September and then October is the best month for Greased Line or Dry line fishing.

    Lower Rogue river:

The lower Rogue river is good for Half-pounders in Aug/Sept with good access roads running along the rivers.

Early and late in the day is best with son on the water your enemy.

Most use a floating line, leader your rod length to 1x and a #8 wet fly or nymph.

Bruce Slightom was a fly fishing jet boat guide on the lower Klamath river for many decades.

He thinks mid-September is the best time to start serious trips to the lower river.

I think October is the best month to go to the middle Klamath river.

Like Terry Thomas and his group, if you can go up there 3 or 4 times a year then go in mid-August.

Chris Pasley and I were invited in August for a free day jet boat trip with Mac out of Time Flies.

Fish were active for maybe 1 or 2 hours in the early morning, then a huge break mid-day, sleeping in the sand under the willows, and

a hour bite in the evening? Not really much fishing time in August.

**I would go up there to the middle Klamath river with a travel trailer for 2 months (Sept 15-Nov 15) in the Fall if I was single.

If you could RV camp up there for the month of October, on a good year, it would change your life forever.
