Our old Cortland Line Company Rep Joe Patterson took us Baby Boomers up there in the 1970s.

Joe learned how to fish those wonderful lakes near Bend from Cal Jordan of La Pine, Oregon.

What was unique was the fact that Cal mostly waded those lakes.

In the 1970s we went over to Cal's little place in La Pine once and the coffee table was a fly display.

The first few years we were all in round float tubes, then we evolved to prams with small outboards.

I still have several flies for Fall River (in Oregon) that Cal tied for me 30 years or more ago. He used fuse wire to get as much weight as possible in the fly as Oregon does not allow weights on fly only water.

Crane is once again my favorite stillwater fishery. It was pretty bad for about a decade, but recently started up producing again, fish are as hot as ever, but not as large as back in the 80s and 90s when 25" -28" trout were common. We used 25' leaders back then. Even though the Crowley fish are even hotter, Crane is still the place I always want to be.

Going to Dexters fly shop was a true experience . You would go in for local information and come out with a handful of great local fly samples and lots of good information .One of the great places. Mike

Too warm to ethically fish right now. But come Fall it could be good.
