Folks,

Good Morning from Lake Almanor.

I just want to send you all a note about the lodging and campgrounds up here at Lake Almanor. If you are camping you may want to look for alternative lodging. The campgrounds are currently closed. I talked to both the Forest Service and PG&E and they have told me that they will open in what the state calls “Phase 3” of the re-opening. They’re projecting that will be open in June.

Update – I talked to the camp host at Rocky Point – their open date is June 28th. The USFS just posted new signs at Legacy & North Almanor Campground will be closed until June 25th.

This situation is changing moment by moment – if I hear anything else on any of campgrounds or anything that may affect lodging and or the fishing, I will let you know ASAP.

On the fishing note- the Hex has just started this week. The last two nights (June 10-11) we have seen great numbers of bugs on the water. The trout and bass are having a field day. Last night we landed 5 fish, all browns with one big 6-pound rainbow. Not bad in 3 hours. Nothing on the dry last night. But the last previous nights (June 8-9) the dry has been great.

At Geritol Cove we have been fishing deep, using RIO Type 7 Lake lines to get down to the big fish. At the Beach area and down at Wildcat we have been using RIO Intermediate Camolux Lake lines to fish.

Top flies have been – Lance’s Hex Bugger Size 8, Lance’s Swimming Black AP and Lincoln’s Stillborn Size 6. All have produced fish throughout the week. With Milt’s Hex Nymph Size 6 coming in 4th in the rating.

I have extreme limited of flies. I am tying flies everyday up here – just to keep up. Shops that have these flies would be The Fly Shop in Redding, The Reel Fly Shop in Grass Valley and Sierra Stream & Mountain in Chico (ask for Garrett when you call Sierra Stream, that is my son, he is working for Lincoln).

I hope this helps everyone.
