Steve Potter, from Tracy, CA, and I went out yesterday in our lovely "tropical river" a few miles form my house.

We left my house at 6am which is a pretty good start for us old anglers.

Just being on a wild beautiful tropical rivers is so inspiring.

We have caught Tarpon, Snook, Jacks, Ladyfish and Large Mouth Bass in our river.

We launched and motored slowly up stream looking for schools "rolling" Tarpon.

As soon as we spot any fishing we shut off the out board and use the bow mounted electric.

You can use 9' #7 to #9 line outfits with floating lines depending on the size flies and the size fish you are seeing.

We used most pretty small white flies thast run very near the surface on a floating line. We tried some Gurglers to no avail.

Yesterday was a good day but not like one we had a few weeks ago where my friend Mike fought a 40 ponder for 4 big jumps.

We jumped some small Baby Tarpon but did not keep them on for long. After a few jumps they would get off.

We saw fish feeding and rolling from pretty small to maybe 20 pounds.

May through October is the best time for Baby Tarpon in the back country, canals, creeks, rivers and lagoons.

Here is a pretty small one that Steve got......
