    This is kind of confusing: you haven’t fished many rods built in the last 24 years, so maybe you’d be surprised at what you can get for $200-$400? In my opinion $200-$250 for a used rod should give you quite a few very nice options. Not top shelf for sure, but if you can live with cheaper components and cork there are plenty of nice rods in that window. I picked up a used Scott S4s, which I would consider top shelf, for $275 not long ago...of course it took a bit of waiting for that deal to come along.

    When the top rod companies change a model and discontinue what is left is a good time to buy a high end rod for cheap.
