    Default Steelhead in the Russian

    Hey guys,

The Russian is starting to give up lots of Steelhead. There are more Steelhead in the River at this time of year then at any other, should stay good for 3 more weeks at least.

    Thanks Carl.......

Some years ago Carl told that late February was a top time on the Russian river for Steelhead if it was not flooded out.

Carl, Is there a closure for Steelhead on the Russian?

    Hi Bill,

The Russian is running 523 right now and the low flow kicks in at 300 they say, A fisherman should always call the hot line and ask if in doubt. My 2 cents

    Eastbayed,

Actually I am not sure what your asking, My post on this subject is current, however this same name of the post has been around for years, are you sure your not confused with join date as opposed to post date? Interesting.

I've been fishing the riffle across the street from my house in the mornings before work. Have hooked 5 big adult winter steelhead the past 10 days swinging comets and bosses, unfortunately not one has come to hand. A few were just bad snaggy spots to hook a steelhead where it would have been unlikely anyway. The one I lost yesterday on my float was a giant buck that may have been the biggest I've hooked on any river. Water is getting low and finding the 2 hander too big for some of my spots. Am grateful to be hooking anything as previous winter seasons swinging have been a few encounters at best, still would be nice to land one. Despite the good fishing this weather is very bleak and hoping we get some rain soon.

Its definitely convenient Bill! Nice to be able to hit up the river for an hour before or after work. Noticeably less fish the past couple days, but the mouths open from what ive heard and fresh fish should be moving up with the tides..rivers getting REALLY low and clear.
