I got to do some steelhead fishing in Southern Oregon earlier this week. A couple of fish were caught, the weather was nice, I floated some new-to-me water and ate some really good French fries in Ashland so it was a pretty good trip.
The most interesting part of the trip was hearing about the Klamath dam removal. The guide I fished with works out of Ashland and is involved in the project through a stakeholder group. The funding is in place and apparently the only approval still needed is from FERC for transfer of the dams to The Klamath Renewal Corporation who will then remove them and do the required mitigation. Removal is schedule to begin January 1, 2022. All four dams will be removed in a nine month period and will be out by October 1, 2022. Mitigation will continue after that but the four dams planned for removal will be out. Two dams will remain but it sounds like those are not the big problem. When I first heard about the dam removal I thought it would never happen in my lifetime but it looks like it will.
